How To Clean Up Your Computer To Get A Performance Boost

If your computer is irritating you by its slow speeds, one of the things you can do is buy a new one. But if your last name isn't Gates (like most of us) and want  to do something else to have a better experience, you can  start from cleaning up your Hard Disk. Not ready to give up on all those important file? Well than follow this steps and wont have to:

1. Uninstall Unnecessary Softwares

Sometimes when you uninstall a software it leaves behind some registy files and some other files so that it can save your preferences and know that it was installed and used for particular number of days(If it is a Trial version Software). This file eventually add up and can slow down your computer. So you need to uninstall your softwares with some other utilities like IObit Uninstaller that can remove all the files related to the program your want to uninstall safely. IObit can even uninstall Windows Updates. You won't be using that last feature a lot of times , but in case some thing doesn't work the way I used to after an Windows Update, then IObit will be handy.

2. Use System Maintenance Software

Just like the software registries you gather a lot of other unwanted data in form of your browsing history, cookies, recent URL's, some other data files etc. even this can add up into a very huge performance loss. To remove this kind of unwanted data use CCleaner. CCleaner will remove all this unwanted files and lot more. Soluto is another great app that gives you a very detailed information about your system. Download its app and then it'll show the results like Disk Usage, Unnecessary extension/plugins of your browse etc. in a great looking Interface. Clean you computer regularly with this software to avoid performance loss due to unwanted data.

3. Defragment Your Disk

Defragment is basically bringing all the clusters of a file together. Disk Defragmenting can improve your speed by a lot. Windows has provided a utility to defragment your disk, to open it go to the drive you want to defragment (Or any other Drive) and Right Click on it then go to Properties > Tools > Defragment Now. Then all you need o do is select the drive you want to defragment and press "Analyse Disk" to know the how fragmented your disk is or press "Defragment Disk" to defragment it. Defragmentation can take some time but its worth it.
If you don't like the default Windows Utility you can download software like Smart Defrag. This kind of softwares give a little better speed and some other advance options.

4. Upload Your Data On The Cloud

If you have done all the above and still have your disk full of data then you can upload the data that you don't use very often like Movies that you have already seen, software installers, etc onto a cloud service like DropBox, SkyDrive or Google Drive. from all this I like DropBox the most as it gives chances to increase your free cloud space. If you don't already have a DropBox account register using this link so that we both can get an extra 500 MB on our account. You can even choose to upgrade your account to get extra space on this services paying some amount on yearly basis or some services even allow payments on monthly basis.

5. Analyze Your Disk Usage

Analyze and know what files are taking up space on your hard drive to know whether to use CCleaner or upload your songs to DropBox. Because if the files taking up your space are your music files, then running CCleaner will not help you at all.
To ANALYZE your disk use this freeware called WinDirStat that gives you a graphical and statistical analysis on what files are using how much space on your hard drive.
